Advice on new xt please 03/10/2008 10:30am
1.Sorry if this is in wrong section was unsure where to put.

2.Im writing this for owners opinions i understand some info im looking for is on the internet.

Buying my first forester soon and was just wondering about the differece between the Gt and the XT. I know there is a bigger engine in the XT but what else? Do the differences out weigh the price difference?Im looking at spending around $25000 so do i go for a for a Gt and do some mods or go out and grab the Xt. It will be my daily driver but still looking to eventually modify it. Do both models cost the same to mod?

Last but not least what do i look for when buying one are there any problem areas i should be looking at.

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers and beers
Nemx

I'm biased.......XT all the way. For 25k you may get an 06 model in good nick....I have an 05, but I often feel I should have waited a few more months.

Mate go the xt ,

ive owned both and the in stock form the xt is much more rewarding

2vs 2.5 litre , better interior , insurance is a lot cheaper xt is a lot quicker then gt due to bigger turbo etc and the fact that the xt is newer is a huge +++

as mentioned if you can get a my06 xt you would be laughing as they have similar engine specs as wrx...

cheers

Mat

XT just outways the GT straight away cause of the bigger engine, turbo, etc etc....

A few simple mods done and you are way above what you can get with a whole lot of mods on a GT.....better value for money....but I guess I got the 06XT myself so I would be biast too....

Went through the same dilemma when I first bought my Foz.
GTs getting pretty cheap these days. Late model 2000-2002 can be had for way under 20k. For the money that you are talking about, 25k you could get a MY05 or MY06 XT, with luxury pack if you shop hard enough. Should have pretty low kms as well for that price.

XT bigger, nicer interior (personal opinion), bigger engine, more power as a stocker. Better stock turbo. GT:125 or 130 kw vs XT:155 or 169 kw stock. As other people have said 2L vs 2.5L engine.

At the end of the day, its up to personal preference and if you like the GT or XT. You will not be disappointed with either as they are both great cars.

05 xt luxury has side airbags - steering wheel cruise and stereo controls and a SUB WOOFER. they are cheap as chips to. You would get a low km version in pristine condition for well under $25K. after 05 the auto's got real slow. add $10K and you have a superb handling reasonably fast (0-100 5.5 sec) ultra relaible vehicle.

these things are pretty bullet proof. mine is an auto so I can't comment on the manuals too much. if manual check the clutch for slip. usual stuff - sevice record. at 100,000 km's they require a reasonably large service. change all fluids, filters, timing belt and plugs.
I was looking at one recently that had 30k km's and no one had ever sat in the back seats. loaded with genuine suby options for $25K with 12 months rego.
2nd cars are cheap cheap cheap. bargain hard and take cash with you. good luck.
